In praise of steroids and what hard work and dedication in the gym create.
What is a muscle man? Who is a bodybuilder? How did we get to the current muscle porn and gay sex landscape? And what do steroids have to do with it?
These are some of the questions that seem to constantly run through my mind. Do I have the answers? Not yet, but, with your help, I feel like I can get there.
What is a muscle man?
I'll start with what he's not — at least in my opinion. He's not just any guy with abs. You know the guys I mean. Especially when it comes to muscle porn. And especially when you're looking to get off on muscle.
I want to see the kind of puffy, steroid-filled guy who gets off on being watched. The ones who lift and juice to entice all eyes to follow them. And who shoot cam vids like this gem:
Anybody know this guy's ID? The video looks pretty old to me but still hot as fuck.
Just look at all that juicy muscle. You can tell this guy pins. That's a muscle man to me. Delts. Triceps. Quads. Filled with tren.

Who is a bodybuilder?
I contend a bodybuilder uses steroids (note: not all men who use steroids are bodybuilders but all true bodybuilders do). Muscle & Fitness Magazine brought several of them together and I have some outtakes. Read the full article.

But people are using them much more in the way people opt to get cosmetic surgery or breast implants or Botox. We live in a society that is very appearance-driven. I think you’d have a safer environment for those seeking to use anabolic steroids if the doctors and pharmacists and legitimate drug companies were brought in to replace the underground labs and black-market dealers.
Every drug has risks. Thinking that anabolic steroids can’t hurt you—that’s false, obviously. But many of the issues involve supervision and monitoring. The difference between a medicine and poison is the dose.

Overall, bodybuilders have to be smart about how they utilize steroids. Just like they have to be smart about how they lift. What they eat. When to rest. Each of these elements plays a part.
The Roided Ones
After a long time of trying to widen the net and allow more “guys with muscles” to take up space I used to reserve for only bodybuilders, I'm coming back full circle. Now all I want are muscle men and bodybuilders again. The kind of men who use steroids without apology because they're smart and know what they're doing.
Rod Roddick
I met and was lucky enough to hang out with Rod Roddick in the early days of The Muscle Service Station. Probably around the time he shot the above scene for Jim French at COLT.
We met in Baltimore one time (he had a regular client there who was a fan of this very site you're now reading) and went down to the waterfront to get dinner. At least half a dozen guys stopped him and asked about his routine, diet, anything really just to spend a minute with him. After telling most of them “this is all just creatine and chicken breasts” he was approached by another guy who clearly was also juicing to get jacked.
They nodded to each other and began to speak in jargon I didn't understand yet. Terms like dbol, tren, and GH. Steroids maketh man.

Rod also worked for JimmyZ doing the BBJam he was so famous for.
Those shows were nothing but a wide-eyed celebration of bodybuilders and muscle men using steroids. If JimmyZ could have gotten away with having them pin while onstage in front of the crowds, he would have. And the men in attendance would have been driven even wilder with desire. Just imagine it.
Jake Gianelli
I never had the pleasure of meeting or working with Jake Gianelli, but he was an active member of the Muscle Forums and friend of the site for years. He found many muscle worship/service clients here during his escorting days.
Jake also brought his massive steroid muscle physique to Colt — soon after Jim French left, I think. I'm not sharing any of those photos because his shoot was ruined by extreme over-editing; something I at the time called the “Robotron-2000” treatment. The images are horrifying, to be honest.

Ryan Smith
My last roided one for today is Ryan Smith. That's a clip I shot of him in 2015, when we were starting to work together. This guy could have really gone places in the muscle man steroid scene. But his life took him in another direction. I'm sure many of you have stories. We'll explore more of Ryan another time.
